- all equipment provided - duck decoys, full body Canada decoys (Avery & Bigfoot)

I drove 1,200 miles from Ohio to hunt Merriam Turkeys in Nebraska with Scott Croner.  The trip proved to be one of the best hunting decision I ever made.  

I was able to arrive at Uncle Buck's Lodge by noon on the day before my scheduled three day hunt.  Since the previous hunters had already tagged out and the weather forecast for the next few days wasn't good,  Scott told me to grab my gear and off we went.   An hour later I had my trophy Merriam.  Fortunately I have a good heart as this bird was taken at 6 yards.    The next day, in a snow blizzard and 30 mile per hour winds we navigated a long stalk on a trophy Rio Grand Turkey which I harvested at 35 yards.

Scott Croner is second to none, when it comes to turkey hunting.   If you listen to what he tells you in preparing for and during the hunt, you will kill birds.  Croner enhances the hunt with his knowledge and enthusiasm for turkey hunting.  He understands and shares in the excitement and the importance of your hunt.  

With the pending bad weather, I  was pleased to be tagged out on the first scheduled day of my hunt by 11:00 am, with two trophy birds. 

Not only was it a great hunt, but the accommodations and hospitality at Uncle Bucks Lodge was first class.   The food was fabulous and I even got to check and feed cattle with (Walt) the owner of the ranch.

Not regrets on this trip!   I highly recommended this hunt.

Go prepared and be ready!   It can be fast and furious.

Francis McLaughlin On HIs Way To A Grand Slam With A Merriam's Gobbler

I would like to thank the Nebraska Hunting Company for his help in getting me a Merriam's turkey.  Scott is totally committed to getting you a turkey.  He is focused on hunting and will put you on birds.  For me this is the third leg of a Grand slam, now only needing the Osceola.  Another group hunting while I was in Nebraska completed 3 grand slams!  One needed a Merriam's, the other two needed a Merriam's and a Rio!

Ellis Scores On A Big 8 "Nebraska Trophy Whitetail" With Scott Croner And The Nebraska Hunting Company

After going Merriam's turkey hunting with Scott Croner in May and tagging out I knew I had to go on a deer hunt with him when the opportunity came up. I booked my deer hunt for muzzleloader season the second week in December. After talking to Scott several times on the phone before I arrived I was very excited about what he was telling me he had been seeing. I arrived in Nebraska City mid afternoon and was greeted by Scott. He took me to a spot on the edge of a soybean field and said he had been seeing a 140-150 class buck in the area along with some 130 class bucks. Two hours later I caught a glimpse of a big buck walking a ridge across from me. I grunted and he turned and walked right towards me. I guess buck fever set in because I made a bad shot and hit him in the gut. Scott and I blood trailed him for a little while that evening but decided to back out when we ran out of blood and lost light. The next morning I was happy to see Scott had two other people with him to help us find the deer. It took us about an hour and we found him the biggest buck I've ever taken a 144" 8-pointer. I've hunted with 6 different outfitters in my life and Scott Croner is the best I have hunted with. I already have a deer hunt booked for next deer season and plan on booking many more.

I wanted to say Thank You for everything you did for my dad and me to make such a memorable hunt. Your knowledge, experience and willingness to get on turkeys is second to none. If someone would have told me I would be getting charged by huge Tom at 20 yards once he saw the fan you carry, I would have called them a liar. It is an experience and memory my dad and I will have for a lifetime. Also, we were both amazed on the amount of turkey we saw. We never thought we would see over 200 birds in 2 days. We are already counting down the days to next years hunt!

Pheasant Hunting - Clothing

The fields you'll be walking through are not manicured, they have stickers, briars and some wet spots. Designer jeans will not survive, but if your kids need them ripped up we can oblige. A sturdy canvas or hunting trouser is what you want. You will see many hunters wearing trousers with a reinforced canvas front and they seem to work well. I have worn tennis shoes while hunting; however, the price you pay are wet feet with stickers in them and usually socks filled with seeds and trash. Better to have a pair of low boots that are well broken in.

This is a social event for some groups, you know best if you need to keep up with the Jones. Your guides will be wearing walking boots, jeans, flannel and a jacket dependent on the day. Some type of orange clothing is required during hunting; this may be a hat, vest or shirt. Temperatures range from 40-70f during the day; evenings the temp drops to freezing some nights. A shirt or sweat shirt combined with a light jacket allows you to adjust layers as the temperature changes.

Shooting glasses are recommended. They protect your eyes from brush, accidents and, depending on the color, can at times enable you to pick up the bird faster.

Bring ear plugs or muffs. You may not want or wear them during hunting, but most people do some target shooting in the morning or evening.

Bring a quality shears or scissors if you intend to clean birds-it helps. Also, plastic bags if you're transporting the birds.

• Waterproof hunting jacket. Be prepared to dress in Layers. Temperatures vary from 10 to 85 degrees.
• Waterproof hunting boots (Be sure to have them broken in to avoid blisters)
• Waterproof pants and canvas front pants
• Waterproof gloves/shooting gloves
• Protective Eyewear (Available at Outfitter shop)
• Blaze orange shooting shirt, vest, or cap (Available at Outfitter shop)
• Hard-side locking gun case
• Gun (12 or 20 gauge, recommended. We provide shells for 12, 16, & 20 gauges only.)
• Casual clothing
• Bring lounge clothing and bathing suit for lake
• Camera, batteries and film
• Camoflauge gear if waterfowl hunting

The rumors tucked away in the Sand Hills of central Nebraska hold more truth than told. Deep in this picturesque valley of cedars, sand and lofty hills, is a sought after secret of the mystical Merriam’s turkey.

Plenty of the country hunted was open, but the birds have a propensity to find and use available cover to their advantage.
The time-crazy world hasn't changed the background of the old ranch town I stayed at.
